Come for an unforgettable experience! Spend a night in the magical Amani House, where you will live like the Omani princes did in the early centuries. Admire the ruins of a mosque built in the eleventh century by the Persians from Shiraz which still has the mirabh and arches with carvings. Have a sumptuous meal by the pool, while the unusual fountain of earthen ware pots pours water into the blue pool. Sleep in a typical Swahili hand carved four poster bed and enjoy hospitality like never before experienced. Take a trip on an Arab dhow to visit a sand bar that emerges from the Indian Ocean at low tides. Discover an abundance of bird life while you sail in a canoe down the Ramisi river, looking for crocodiles. End your trip with a glass of bubbly while you immerse yourself in a petal-scented Jacuzzi bath.
Why not experience Paradise for a few days by staying at Amani House or Salama House? The coconut shaped pool is at your disposal, and waiters are there to cater to your every need. Fancy a fruit platter, or a glass of wine? You need only ask! Relax in the spacious lounge at Amani House tastefully decorated with carved Arab furniture and antiques. Take the path over the ponds filled with tropical fish and discover vivid coloured exotic tropical flowers in the gardens. Experience fine dining of the highest standards and end your day with a dip in the petal-scented Jacuzzi bath. Did we not say it is Paradise?
Join us on the dhow as we sail aboard a typical Arab dhow, through the mangroves to reach the open ocean. Experience the waves lashing against the side of the dhow, as you feast on tropical fruits, with spiced tea and typical Swahili breakfast eats. Come to a sand bar that rises out of the Indian Ocean and take a dip in the clear waters or walk along the sand bar, admiring the many traditional fishing vessels. Get into a canoe and sail down the Ramisi river to view the abundant bird life, so unique to this part of the world. Take a look at the waters as you sail, and discover how many African crocodiles live in this river. This is truly Paradise Lost!
An important part of the Paradise Lost excursion is a visit to Shirazi village, one of our best kept secrets. Here experience everyday village life which centers round the mosque. See the village’s life line - the manual water supply where women with babies on their backs, draw and collect water for their cooking and washing. Visit a typical village home, made of mangrove poles, held together with coral rocks and soil, and roofed with palm thatch. See women making the thatch from palm fronds while others grate coconuts as they prepare the family meal. Watch the village kids while away their time playing in the sand, and help the men harvest cashew nuts. Try your hand at pounding the cassava (yam) into flour while enjoying the ambiance and simplicity of village life!
